That is smoke from forest fires. As the day wore on the smoke got heavier and you could hardly see the mountain.
Looking out the other way from the observatory.
We hiked out for about 45 minutes.
But with the wind and this narrow path we decided to go back
We drove down to a 2 mile loop trail around the hummocks. These are parts of the mountain that were deposited like this when it erupted in 1980.
We saw a lot of plants and water in this area. It was so different from the other area we hiked.
What an amazing day! That is why I am dirty.
We stopped in the Nob Hill neighborhood in Portland for dinner. The Urban Spoon app on my phone helped me choose a restaurant. Rich and I both love Lebanese food so we ended up here...
If you are in Portland and love this type of food please try them.
Hala's on NW 23rd.
We had the Vegetarian mezza assortment. These are probably the best stuffed grape leaves and hummus that I have had. Everything was wonderful. They would not let us leave without trying this...
Baklava to die for!
After that we walked around to help with the digestion. This neighborhood has lots of restaurants and interesting shops. There are a few places that we need to go back to. It was lovely just window shopping and looking at different menus.
This is one lovely window that we passed by.
We had to go into Moonstruck Chocolates to look at these.
Now we are back in our room and I need to scrub the dirt off.
Thank you Portland for a lovely evening.

Wonderful photos! Thanks again for sharing your journey with us. Not sure if I could do that narrow pathway ~ especially with wind. Might not mix well with my natural fear of heights!
oooh the restaurant and store look lovely. The scenery is interesting too. Such a bummer about the smoke and the winds. I didn't realize there were fires in Oregon as well. Thanks again for sharing!
Ahhh, when I see mountains my blood starts rolling and I get the strong desire to go there myself. I visited the area a couple of years ago and remember that I was completely impressed by the scenery. I really appreciate all your pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Boy, what a trip this is! I love seeing the photos and hearing about all the places you're visiting...and the food you're gobbling up too. Yummo!!! xo
