Hello From Detroit!

Happy Fall!
I hope that wherever you are there have been some beautiful fall or spring days. I love the temperatures, the colors and pumpkin everything.
I have still been traveling and ended up spending a couple of weeks in Detroit.
This is a view of the city from Belle Isle.
I wasn't working downtown but a ways out from the airport. I stayed at a couple if different hotels by the airport. They were so nice and were convenient to resturants and a convenience store.
It was easy to get around too. The suburbs are all laid out in a grid so it was easy to get back to my hotel and to find different things.
I was lucky enough to meet up with some friends in the area. My friend Tina I had met 5 years ago when we were both in Fresno, CA working on a CVS conversion. Tina was anxious for me to explore Detriot. Detroiters love their city!
Detroit is 313 years old this year. This is the spirit of Detroit.
Detroit was a major stop on the Underground Railroad.
Canada is right across the River. This is a view of Windsor. The statue is right behind me.
It was great having a tour guide in Detroit because I don't think that I would have gotten to see as much of the city by myself.
Here I am outside the Tigers stadium. I loved the statues and how there are tigers throughout the stadium.
The second week that I was in town we made it to a game.
Here we are in the stadium. We got great seats from Stubhub.
Whoop!
The Tigers won. It was a great night.
I got stuck in Detroit over the weekend due to the fire in Chicago so I was able to explore some more.
I visited the DIA, the Detroit Institute of Art. What an amazing collection. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to see it if it hadn't been for the fire in Chicago. And the weather was beautiful.
I took a break and sat here in this wonderful space at the museum.
After the art museum I walked across the street to the Detroit History Museum.
This museum was full of wonderful exhibits and admission was free. I learned a lot of things about Detroit.

In the lower level of the museum they have a street set up with old storefronts. This store had some wonderful spool cabinets.
Here is one.
And another.
The fire house.
This was just an amazing place. I am so glad that I had the chance to visit even though I was really blue about being stuck over the weekend. I would not have gotten home until Saturday and would have had to leave Sunday morning to fly to Ohio. It was better to just stay in Detroit and drive the 3 hours on Sunday to my next stop.
  I also stopped here..
This is the site of a famous Arts & Crafts pottery, Pewabic Pottery.
They have beautiful things.
After my sightseeing in Detroit, I headed over to Tina's best friends home. They were celebrating the 60th birthday of Her friends Father. Tina had spent the last 3 days helping get the house and yard set up for 100 people. It was so kind to be invited and everyone was so welcoming.
It seemed like I was with family.
Yum! What a wonderful event.
So, Detroit also has wonderful food but I am going to do another post about that.

What else can I say about this wonderful city? It is full of people who love their city, the history, their teams, their food. I worked with the nicest people here.
I think I can sum it up by saying Detroit, I love you!

Thanks for traveling with me!

Chris

Glad you liked Detroit. As someone from a Michigander family (father's family moved to the state in the mid-1830s and my mom's family 20 years later) it is nice to hear good things about Detroit. There are obviously issues but it has come so far in the last few years.
