Off On An Adventure

Hello Friends!
How has your Sunday been? Things were pretty great here. Rich and I headed up the road this morning to Eden, NC. The town is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from us by car.
Look! A drive in!

Since it was lunch time you know we had to stop for a hotdog before the adventure part of the day.

Yum! "All the way" in North Carolina means mustard, onions, cole slaw and chili.

Eden is a very old town with a manufacturing past. You can see the old mill buildings in the background of some of the pictures.

These displays were in the building that our adventure started at.

These were textile mills.
There are 3 rivers right here, the Dan, Smith River and the Mayo.

So the adventure was a canoe trip!

Getting ready to head off. We are actually in Virginia here.

The canoe trip was going to last 3 to 4 hours and take us down 8 miles of the Smith river.

This is Rich after our little mishap about 15 minutes into the trip. Yup, totally flipped the canoe.

After that things smoothed out and we didn't have any further incidents.

This is whale rock. Can you see his mouth?

We saw lots of kingfishers, herons(both large and small), mallards, Canadian geese and river otters.

The first 6 miles were like going through the wilderness, no traffic noise or sounds.

I think that we will have to do this again! Not the getting wet part.

This was a Living Social deal that I bought online. The trip cost $17. What a bargain. Of course the hotdogs and the gas to drive up to Eden were more.

Here's a little more Penny America progress.

I need to go to bed. I am pooped and should sleep well.

Sweet dreams.

Looks like a fun adventure! I went canoeing...once! In Long Island's Great South Bay. It was SO windy if we stopped paddling we were further back from where we were! lol! It is a very quiet sport though, no sounds to hear at all. That hot dog looks so very YUM!

Eden looks like a nice little town : ) John & I used to love going canoeing! We haven't been for years! The last time we had the same experience as you ... tipped over the canoe but we tipped it right at the start of the trip ... lol! Lots of fun though : )

In Alaska, they call canoes Alaskan divorce court. And the dude and I can tell you when you are trying to canoe upstream, there is a reason they are called that! Glad to know your "adventure" was followed by smooth sailing! :)

I love little trips with my wonderful husband, we do a lot of biking in other areas of minnesota.
I am glad you had a great time, minus the wet time.
Love your Penny Penny America, I do lots of penny rugs with felt, this reminds me of that type of stitching.
Have a fun filled Labor Day.
