Birthday Celebrating

Hello Friends!
I hope that your week was great. Rich and I made it through. Rich's birthday was yesterday, woohoo! We had a nice dinner at home. This morning we packed up and headed up the road to Roanoke, VA. I have driven through this town many times and have never stopped. Roanoke is about 2 1/2 hours from where I live so it is a great destination for a weekend away.
Rich and I spent the afternoon at the Virginia Transportation Museum.

Roanoke has an amazing railroad history.

There were lots of engines to look at.

This one was built in Roanoke. It is a steam engine. They make me want to take a train trip.
After that we checked in at the hotel. We can walk to everything downtown from here.

So for dinner Rich and I walked to here...

Hot Dogs!!! Woohoo!

Yum! The relish that they put on the hotdogs and burgers is really special. The Texas Tavern has been here since 1930.

Rich is happy to be sitting at the counter eating hot dogs.
After dinner we walked around downtown. What a great place to visit!

I love these signs. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to see the Roanoke's star.
I brought a little stitching with me. This is a LK Halloween freebie that I have stitched once already. It has been in my travel bag for awhile and the bright colors are just the ticket to make stitching fun.

Thanks for checking in and as always for your kind comments.

Have a great weekend!

Chris

Nice getaway. Thanks for sharing the info about Roanoke. It is a little bit farther than 2 1/2 hours for me but it sounds like a great place to stop if I we're route to somewhere. Would never have thought about stopping before reading your post. Thx!

Happy birthday to Rich! Looks like a fantastic weekend trip to a fun city. Love seeing those old trains. DS loved trains growing up, so I still have a fondness for the old ones. Love seeing your meal too -- oh yum! A good chili dog would hit the spot right about now. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Chris, belated Happy Birthday! And how cool that you visited my hometown of Roanoke! My " uncle Jim"- actually my dad's best friend, owns the Texas Tavern.
