Heading South

A Hello!
Thanks for traveling along with me. After Sedona Rich and I headed south to Tucson. I had plans to stop at Montezuma's Castle to see the cliff dwellings but this was also a national park that was closed so our first stop was at the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park.
We were there at 9 am when they opened and when we pulled into the parking area there was a group of Javalinas grazing. They took off before I could get a picture but here is a stuffed example from the park offices.

They are small and we saw a mom wit two little babies. They are not feral pigs but are relatives of the old world boars and hippos.
This is a view from the trail headed down to the bridge.

Peeking through....

Closer...

Underneath....

Can you see the waterfall?

Magical...

Getting wet....

From the other side...

What an amazing place.
So back in the car we stopped in Payson, AZ to get some supplies(diet coke) and we were headed south when I saw the sign for this place...

Zane Gray's cabin an the Rim Country Museum. One of my Mom's favorite books is The Virginian so I thought that she would like a picture of this. The tour of the museum was wonderful. It was great yo learn about this part of Arizona from the Native People to the early pioneers to the Dude Forest Fire.
After that it was time to head back down the road.

We drove around Roosevelt Lake. All of the recreation areas were closed due to the National Park shut down.

It was still a pretty drive.
We finally made it to Tucson. Rich and I had dinner at the Polish Cottage. It was very yummy...pierogi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa....

We are staying at a very nice Embassy Suites. This is what was waiting for us when we got back to our room for our anniversary.

Thanks for traveling with me!

It sounds like you had a great trip even though you had to alter your original plans. On the plus side, you got to see lots of wonderful things you might not have seen otherwise.

I am loving the trip. My DH has a sister in Tuscon. We are thinking that when our very rainy gray winter skies have us bored, we should take a trip down there! Also, a very very Happy Anniversary to you both!

You've found a lot of interesting places that are not necessarily mainstream. Sounds like a great trip. Thanks for taking us with you! (I've seen a lot of animals in the wild, but no javelinas...)
