A "Mini Break"

Good morning.
I hope that everyone is having a great weekend.
Has anyone read Bridget Jones? Or seen the movie with Renee Zellweger? There is a scene where she and Hugh Grant are diving off in a convertible on a mini break. I always think of this term when I head off on a short adventure.
After work on Friday Rich and I got some dinner and headed over to Winston-Salem, NC.

Fortunately the rain held off.

At 8pm the ghost tour started.

Our creepy guide.

It was a lot of fun. One of the stories was about the Salem Female Academy(quite famous for the needlework that was done at the school).
After that we headed to our hotel so that we could get up early the next morning to head further up the road to visit Pilot Mtn.
It was raining when we got up so we made a couple of stops before leaving WS.

Winston-Salem is the home of Krispy Kreme Donuts and the hot light was on so we stopped for a donut. Then ran into Trader Joe's for a couple of things.
Then we headed further north to Pilot Mountain.

See the knob?

Quite imposing. In the 14 years we have lived in NC we have never explored this area. Fortunately the rain was holding off so we were able to hike some.

It was pretty rugged but beautiful and different than what we normally see when we hike.

After that we headed over to Hanging Rock state park.
This park is beautiful too.

There is a lake. No one was boating or swimming. Rain continued to threaten and it was very cool. Actually it seemed more like October.

We hiked a couple more miles.

Rich and I will definitely have to visit these 2 parks again. They were gorgeous and we didn't get to see everything. They have also opened a new highway connector that probably takes about 20 minutes off our travel time to this area.
We got home at about 4pm and I was able to stitch a little.

Today I hope to recover from all the excitement after I get the grocery shopping done.

Have a great Sunday!

Sounds like a great mini break. That's my favourite kind of break - I think you tend to pack more in than on a longer break.

One thing I enjoy about blogging is seeing the many different places in our country. Thanks for the mini trip!

I'm glad you had a great time and the weather cooperated. Haven't been to either park since childhood but I love driving past Pilot Mountain.
Don't guess you ran into Barney and Andy while you were in their neighborhood. And there's nothing like a hot Krispy Kreme!

Hi Chris! Sounds like you and Rich had a great weekend. A little get-away is always good. Are you still doing hot yoga??? Hope work is easing up for you some...

I always enjoy your adventures, Chris! Did the ghosts cooperate and put in an appearance? :) We went on a ghost tour at Fort Delaware a few years ago, but didn't have any ghostly experiences. Fabulous scenery for your hike!
