The Battle Is Lost..

The battle for the Christmas tree. I knew that when Rich and I put up the tree this year it would be a battle. Can you see the determined look in Binx's eyes. I put up my stitched ornaments and other ornaments that I thought would be unbreakable. I didn't know that this would be like Disneyland for the 2 cats. The cats we had before this were for the most part uninterested. Rich and I kept moving the ornaments away from the bottom of the tree but that did not keep them from pulling as many ornaments as they could off the tree. So after a few ornaments being destroyed and some attempts to put others in their water bowl the decision was made to take the tree down. It wasn't worth the destruction and distress. I think we will try again next year.

I hope that your holiday decorating is more successful than mine!
Have a great Friday!

Chris

That just sucks! I am gonna have to share my cat v. christmas tree "horror" story later, but I will share with you now.

I was living with my mom and she had (still has) a white cat named Casper. One morning, I went into the living room. I wasn't exactly looking for him, but I noticed something odd about the tree. He was LAYING peacefully in the middle branches. Can you imagine, ALL of that white standing out against the green?! LOL...needless to say, not an ornie was destroyed. I still can't believe it and wouldn't if I didn't have a photo to prove it. Watch my blog for the whole story!

Ugh. Such a bummer! I'm sorry about that. I'm hoping we won't have a similar problem with Mia this year. It will be her first year where she's feeling healthy and ready for trouble when we bring the tree home. Fingers crossed!

Maybe try leaving the tree and lights with no ornaments. They may lose interest once it's been around for a couple of days.

LOL! I am laughing at Binx's expression. I think it says, "Bring it!".

Too bad about your tree. :( Binx definitely looks determined (a look I recognize all to well). :) If our son wasn't still at home, I might choose to forgo the tree battle too. As it is, it means Hobbs being confined to one room until after the holidays ~ she ate some of the tree last year and was extremely sick for several days. Very scary!
Some good suggestions from Lee and natalyK ~ might work.
Enjoy your weekend!

Oh no! But he looks so cute lying under the tree! I hope your ornies and the tree survive!

That IS a bummer! I have delayed putting up my tiny tree this year because of Mischief and Mayhem. Last year (their first) went okay until they realized the unbreakable ornaments looked exactly like their ping pong balls. After that? Bedlam.

Our cat was like that the first couple of years, Chris, but he eventually got used to it and just batted at a few lower ornaments... Binx looks like he is in love with that treestand!

Maybe he win the battle - but not the war! I lime the idea of leaving the tree with no ornaments until Binx gets used to it.

My friend tried the outdoor trick to keep critters away from baby rabbit nests on her Christmas decorations. Put a little Vick's Vaporub in small containers, or on the lower branch tips. Most animals can't handle that strong scent and you don't need so much that the whole room will smell. It worked for her cat and dog.
