I Need Another Day Off!

Hello Friends!
I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Saturday I drove down to Chapel Hill to meet one of my stitching friends. After meeting up we drove over to Hillsborough to visit the Burwell School.

This was a girls school which operated from the late 1830's to the lat 1850's. Elizabeth Keckley was a slave here prior to buying her freedom and becoming a dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln and the wives of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis.

This is the house.

This is the school house in the back.

The garden is kept up by the Hillsborough garden club.

After our tour we went and had lunch at a place called the Riverside cafe, very southern home cooking.
My friend and I have gotten into this habit where when we get together every other month or so we spend the day like this. We have a great time.
Today was spent vacumimg, grocery shopping and stitching.

I just have to work on putting this together for my friends birthday. This free pattern is available on the Weeks Dye Works website.
Well time to get ready to start another week!

Good night :)

Looks like you had a great visit with your friend. Thank you for sharing this information about the Burwell School. These things are important to our history. I didn't even know it existed. What a cute design. Whatever you decide to do with it she is going to love it coming from a friend.
