Here We Go!

I was happy to make it home from work last night in time to see Team USA make their entrance during the opening of the Olympics. What I saw of the opening ceremonies was amazing. I loved the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, the way the leaves all came together. Stunning. The stadium and fireworks were so beautiful. What a great night for London and the world.

The Olympics always me spend time with more memories of my Grandfather, Jack Medica.
He grew up in Seattle. His swimming career took him around the world to many swim meets. Japan, Australia, Europe. His Olympic games were the 1936 games in Berlin. He took home the gold in the 400m freestyle and the silver in the 1500m and the 4x200m relay. He had world records that stood for 7 and 9 years. I wonder what he would think of the games today?
He passed away in 1985. I wish that he had stayed with us longer. I think I see some resemblance in this picture and I know that my height must come from him. I chose to go to Japan as an exchange student in 1983 since that was his favorite place that he visited.  I miss you PopPop.
I hope to have some time to watch some events over the next couple of weeks and to do some stitching.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone's Olympic stitching! I love some of the events that I have seen on the other blogs.

As always, thanks for visiting and your kind comments.

Not Much Stitching, Not Much of Anything

But the weekend is already over!!! Why do they seem to be getting shorter?
Last week was a long work week for me since I was covering the slot of the other tech and still keeping up with some of my own work. So I was really looking forward to enjoying the weekend.
Saturday after Zumba and a shower I headed out to run some errands. They included doing this...

While I was waiting to be called to go into the blood mobile I ran into Myra and her husband. She has been very busy with her job too. I was telling her how much you all love her needle books.

On the bus giving blood.
My errands also included the normal stops, bank, post office, gas station. When I got home I did a lot of cooking for the week. Quiche, pasta salad, an some other stuff.
I did finish this guy.

This month the Christmas All Year Long SAL theme was a bird. See the little blue guys in this ornament? I will try and get the finishing done soon.
I also started this...

I can't share more at the moment.

So now I am looking forward to another busy week. I am determined to stitch a little a couple of nights. Wish me luck!
I hope you had lots of stitching time over the weekend. Wishing you a great upcoming week too.

Hugs

Where To Put Them?

Last night I was able to have dinner with my friend who also does some framing for me. So these 2 lovelies are back home.

Here is a close up of the frame.

And this one.

And another close up.

The colors are not good on these pics, but you get the idea.
I hope to get them hung up over the weekend but I think that I need to move some things around.

Happy Friday Friends!

Where Did The Weekend Go?

I can't believe it is over all ready!?! I have so much more I want to do.
Saturday started with Zumba. I'm the same strip a donut place just opened so I left Zumba and went next door.

Until this year there hasn't been a place for donuts in town. I got theses for Rich. He just burns everything off. He said they were good. Kind of similar to Dunkin Donuts.
After a shower I met up with Myra for lunch. Over some Mexican food for lunch we got caught up. I am so lucky that she lives nearby!
She brought me one of her fabulous needle/scissor cases.

Won't this be great for travel.

Thank you Myra!
Today Rich and I went for our morning hike. Ugh! We have high humidity. Last week was hotter, but we have been pretty wiped out after each hike.

We also run into lots of these, ugh! There aren't many other people hiking right now due to the weather.
After coming home and showering and having lunch, we headed out to do out weekly grocery shopping and made a trip to Costco to stock up on a few things. By the time we got home it was 6pm.

I was hoping to get this guy finished but it didn't happen.
So this upcoming week is going to be busy! The other tech is out so I will be covering the front counter and still trying to keep up on some of my own work. Also trying to help keep the crisis unit stocked. At least I am allowed overtime:)
Thanks for all the kind comments and welcome to my new followers. Keep cool and put some stitches in for me!

Hugs

More Mailbox Goodness

Today's mailbox treat was this new book published by the MFA in Boston.

They have been hosting a series of needlework exhibits. Unfortunately I have not made it up there to see any of them. At least I have the book.

There are lots of beautiful pics inside. This is an unfinished piece. She stitched all the fun stuff but gave up on all that background.

Lovely right? What a great addition to my sampler book library. I ordered it from BN and I think it was $24 plus change.

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Dreaming of Snow

Or just working on building a snowman. This is my July ornament for the Christmas All Year Long SAL.

It is the Country Cottage Needleworks design from the 2008 JCS ornament issue.
I hope that everyone is having a great week. I am enjoying cooler temperatures and some rain.
Keep cool and keep stitching!

I Stopped At The Post Office...

Before my Zumba class. It made going to class really hard because inside my mailbox was a package from Needlecraft Corner. I think the other patrons saw me skip out of the post office with my package.
I was not strong enough to wait until I got home to open my package but I did make myself still go to exercise class before going home to floss fondle.
In the package was this...

There are some fabulous projects in this!

Is that not fabulous?

Look at all the kittens in the pumpkin! Sweet!

This guy makes me laugh.

I think I love everything on this page.
Maybe next year there needs to be a Halloween all year long ornament stitch along.... One month the theme could be spider, then cats, then pumpkins, etc.
If you like Halloween stitching this issue is pretty fabulous.
Also in my package was this...

The first part if the Lizzie Kate sampler. Look at the scrumptious floss. Yummo!
The package would have been perfect if there had been some 60 degree days and 30 degree nights in it too. I am ready for fall!! Wait , those temps are North Carolina winters. Lol.
Well I need to go spend some more time with my new stash.
Have a great week!

A Game of Tag

Hello Friends.
Meari tagged me in the Eleven game, so here we go.....

  1. Post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
  3. Come up with 11 new questions.
  4. Tag 11 people and link them to your post.
  5. Let them know you tagged them so they can answer the questions.
Meari's questions

1.      Do you have a SABLE (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy) situation? Of course I do, silly girl.

2.      What is the most favorite vacation you’ve been on? There have been a few of them, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Chattanooga. I am looking forward to adding a lot more to this list.

3.      Have you ever entered your stitching in a competition? Yes, in the local fair a very long time ago. I even got a trophy!

4.      Cat or Dog? We have 2 cats. I would love to have a dog( preferably an Irish Wolfhound or a sloppy Lab) but the schedules that my husband I have always had keep us away from home for long work days. Someday, we will have a dog.

5.      Have you taught anyone how to stitch? Like a child? No. But I think that everyone always shared tips with their stitching friends.

6.      What is/are your favorite TV show(s)? The Closer, The Killing, Mad Men. I watch too much of Investigation Discovery channel while I am stitching.

7.      What is your favorite stitching tool? My scissors.

8.      What brands of floss have you used? DMC, WDW, GAST, NPI, Crescent Colors, AuVera Soie, and I am sure that there are others.

9.      Are you adventurous when it comes to trying new foods? Yes. When traveling I always want to try local places versus chains. I also lived in Japan and i had to be very adventurous then.

10.  Do you like kits or do you like kitting up your own?  It depends on the project. For a sampler or large project I like a kit because I don't have a local shop. Smaller projects I will stash dive for.

11.  If you could do anything for a day, what would it be? I would spend another day with PopPop (my Grandfather).

Ok, I am pretty late to this game so I am not going to tag anyone since I think many of you have been tagged. I would love to see some of my Blog buddies answer these questions.

1. What is your favorite holiday to stitch for?

2. What do you eat for breakfast?

3. Do you stitch in public?

4. Automatic or standard?

5. What is your favorite specialty stitch?

6.If you have a pet(s), what are their names?

7. Do you do mostly cross stitch or do you also do needlepoint, crewel, hardanger, etc ? What other types of embroidery?

8.Do you start your day with tea or coffee, or something else?

9.Do you wear glasses to stitch or do you use magnification?

10. If you go to a potluck what do you make to take?

11. What will you be stitching on today?

Have a peaceful Sunday.

A Quiet Day, With Some Finishing

Good Morning!
I hope that everyone is having a great week. If you are in the US I hope that your 4th was fabulous.
My 4th was very nice and quiet. Rich had to work so I had the day to myself. I chose to stay home and watch the History and military channels Revolutionary War marathons and to work on some stitching.

I put my By The Bay Needleart SAL in this frame that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I am very pleased with it. Now I just have to decide where to hang it.
I finished stitching this Pine Mountain pillow.

It will go on my bed for the month with my other pillows.
I also did the finishing on my June ornament.

This is my Brittercup ornament from the 2008 JCS ornament issue.
So what to stitch next, I need to get some more of the over one motifs on Marietta stitched and I need to work in my ornament for this month. I also know that the LL mystery sampler will be landing in my mailbox any day now. I think I need a few more day off!
Thanks for stopping by and all your kind comments!

Happy Thursday!

Laying Low

Hello Friends.
I hope that you are having a great weekend and are keeping cool. I hope that everyone in the mid-Atlantic area will have power and AC soon. It is probably about 100 here. Hopefully by Wednesday it will break. We really need some rain.
I have not had any time to stitch during the week. Rich got home Tuesday night. I had exercise class a couple of nights and went out to eat on Friday night.
I finished the By The Bay SAL last night.

It really was fun to stitch. It was so generous of Donna to offer this design. I will try and get it into the frame soon.
Yesterday I went to this class..

What a great teacher! It was awesome. I am so lucky to have this studio nearby with a great group of teachers. All the special events they hold are wonderful.

These are some of the other participants.
On the work front my last day was Friday with the one job an then Monday I will start with the new company that has taken over the Behavioral Health services in the county. I have a huge amount of work to do since I need to enter all of my 600 patients back into the medication assistance tracking program that we use. At least I have a job and there is OT available for me to get caught up.
Thanks for all your kind words and support during my uncertainty leading up to the job. I know a month from now things will be back to normal.
Friday the pharmacy was closed since they were changing out the computers. Afterwards my pharmacist to the other tech and me out to dinner. We had a lovely time at a local Japanese steakhouse.
Rich and I usually have 4th of July week off but he is very busy at work and since my job just changed we will be staying in town. I am a little disappointed. I am ready for a road-trip. I am starting to get antsy about booking our vacation the first week of October. I am looking forward to going somewhere exciting :)
Well that is it from here. I am going to go stitch.
Keep cool my friends!
