Day Trip

Hello Friends.
This morning the rain ended just as Myra (Gr8dame's Place) and I headed down the road to the Stitch & Frame shop in Rock Hill, SC.

Here is a pic of me and Zippy that Myra snapped. The day turned clear and beautiful.
The shop was great. There were lots of tempting things. A Schoolgirl's Work from BBD was on my list so I picked that up.

I also picked up a few Lizzie Kate charts.

After that we rode over to Mary Jo's in Gastonia. There wasn't anything that either of us were searching for but it was fun to look.
Next stop was at McAlister's Deli for some sandwiches.

The next stop was supposed to be Trader Joe's but we made a little detour to Ikea. I kind of wanted to see their holiday stuff and to get some tea lights. It was packed so Myra and I did a quick run thru the housewares and home dec areas. And look what we found!

These are paper napkins. They had different colors. I think that they will be great for EGA.
After Ikea we headed to Trader Joe's. I haven't been in a couple of months so I did some stocking up. Myra and I both brought our coolers. After TJs we headed home. It was a fun day. Myra and I caught up on everything from our stitching to our holiday plans.
I got home by 5:30. Rich and I had a nice dinner and we are now watching Hocus Pocus. I love this movie. Our Binx is named after the Binx in this movie.

That is about it from here. I am off to stitch!

Pumpkin Party

This evening I went to one if my friend's home for a pumpkin party. It was B.Y.O.P. to carve. We actually never got around to carving pumpkins, we were too busy eating fall themed food, pumpkin fudge, butternut squash risotto, sweet potatoes, chicken, etc. I need to undo the top bottom of my pants! The little pumpkins with the pansies were the party favors. It was a wonderful evening with a great bunch of ladies.

Here is the progress on Sarah. Sorry for the blurry pic.

Thanks for all the kind comments on the pink eye. It is much better and not scary looking so I went back to work today.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend. Everyone that is supposed to get snow please be safe and enjoy the quiet of the snowfall.

Am I Winking At You?

Hello Stitching Friends.
If it looks like I am winking it is due to a case of pink eye. Ugh!
I left work yesterday, went to the Dr. Picked up a prescription and came home. I didn't need this right now.

I have spent a little bit of time with Sarah. She is a sweet girl.

This is the view at the top of the driveway. The fall colors are beautiful right now.
I feel like I should be stitching some fall items. I am enjoying seeing all the Halloween finishes on your blogs.

That's about it from here!

Stay well friends and I hope you have time to stitch.

Stitching Friends Well Met

Well it is Monday morning and the start of another work week.

The weekend at the Winterthur conference was great. I saw many friends that I haven't seen for years. Friends from Sampler Gathering and other classes and symposiums.

Here is a picture of the Winterthur house/museum. The leaves have only just started changing so there wasn't a lot of color.
On Friday and Saturday the schedule was lectures in the morning and interactive smaller sessions in the afternoon. The speakers talked about the plymouth jacket, gold thread and wire production, a couple of groups of Connecticut needlework, embroidery in Tudor/Stuart portraits, Berlin work and the Carew crewel work.

The breakout sessions that I took included looking at some I the recaptures in the library.

Here are some if the rare books they showed us that stitchers may have used for inspiration.

This is a book that illustrated different stitches.

These are hand drawn embroidery patterns.

This is a page from a scrap home. It is a scrap book that is all different rooms of a house. The girls would cut out pictures of furniture, lamps and other household items and using prices of wallpaper and fabric they would layout these rooms in the scrap book. It was really interesting.

I took a sampler class with Joanne Harvey. This is the Sarah Collins in the Winterthur collection. I didn't start her, she is going on the shelf with my other black boxes.
Other highlights were viewing the galleries in the museum and the beautiful needlework that was displayed.
On Saturday night we went to see a friend in Pennsylvania who has a wonderful local sampler collection. It was wonderful to see the samplers and her collection of other items. We had a nice dinner an caught up on what she was doing.
Sunday it was up early and heading back home. We stopped south of Richmond to meet and have lunch with another dear stitching friend. It was so nice to catch up. She brought us a wonderful little treat bag with this in it.

Isn't it fabulous?
Stitching friends are the best.

So I have to go get ready for work. I have some more info to post but it will have to wait.

Have a great Monday friends!

Another Roadtrip

This morning I headed down the road with my friend Susan to the Winterthur textile symposium. Today was just a travel day. Itis about 8 hours from my house.

We made pretty good time, and only hit a few construction delays.

We had plenty of time to swing by The Strawberry Sampler. What a great store. It is a real treat to visit one. They are few and far between any more.

I had to pick up a few things that are on my wish list.
We then checked into the hotel and found a place for some dinner. Chain restaurants are great but whenever I travel I would rather end up at a local place. Tonight we ended up at Deerhead hotdogs.

The Deerhead sauce on this dog is a spicy chili. Yum. Great on a cool blustery evening.
It is going to be an early night tonight since tomorrow is a full day.

Sarah is along for the trip.

I hope everyone had a great Thursday.

Chris

P.S. when I packed my suitcase it still smelled like Hawaii!

Yeah For Fall!

Hello Friends!
I hope that the fall weather is treating everyone well. The leaves are starting to come down here and there is some color here. It has been cooler, days in the 70's. By the middle of the upcoming week our highs are supposed to be in the low 60's. I love it!

The "Drama" last week centered around this guy who got out and was MIA for 4 days. There was another escape today. He is home now and has a little scratch by his eye that I am concerned about. He is much more of a lap cat after his adventures. Hopefully there will be no more escapes and they will settle back down to their indoor cat routine.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments about the trip. Rich and I had a great time. I worked 2 nights this week at the second job so I have been very slow in getting back to the regular routine here. I finally stitched a little on Sarah tonight.

I put in the row of eyelets.
It was a beautiful clear fall day here so Rich and I took a ride up to Riedsville, NC.

I had bought tickets in Groupon for a tour of this house and they had to be used by November.

This is the front.

Part of the garden.

Some details of the gate.

The house was built in 1925. There were no pictures allowed inside. The tour was interesting and enjoyable.

It was the perfect afternoon for some ice cream. How about pumpkin and cinnamon together? Yum!

At the post office today there was a package waiting. I am looking forward to putting this pin cushion from By The Bay Needleart together.
Tomorrow I caved in and agreed to work 4 hours because someone called out. I need to do some cooking fir the week and start to get ready for a trip up to Delaware on Thursday to the Winterthur symposium. I hope to see a lot if wonderful textiles and many friends.
I hope that everyone is finding some time to stitch. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hugs!

Detox

Hello Friends!
DH and I made it home Sunday afternoon. Those over night flights are long and it takes awhile to get back to normal. I am definitely feeling like I am detoxing from vacation!

The rest of the time on Oahu was great. We really saw a lot of the island.

I didn't get any more stitching done. I left the color key at home and since I kept having to try to figure out the colors from the pic I gave up.

I did go into a Fabric Mart while I was in HI. Look at these colors! There were rows and rows of amazing prints. It is a good thing that I don't sew. I left with out buying anything.

Rich and I spent Friday visiting some botanical gardens.

Such amazing plants and colors.

All in all it was an amazing trip.
We came home to some drama, but things are starting to return to normal, back to work, catching up on laundry, paying bills, etc.
I have not had a chance to stitch yet, hopefully tonight!

I hope that you have a great week and I hope to have some stitching to show soon!
Hugs

Sarah's Vacation

Here is my girl. Sorry the color is not good. I will try and take a better one soon.

Thank you friends fir all your kind comments on my last post. When I get back home I will reply to them and get caught up on my blog reading.

Rich and I spent all day Sunday at the Arizona Memorial, the Bowfin, the USS Missouri an the Pacific Aviation Museum. They say it should take about 5 hours to see everything. We were there 8 hours and could have spent more time.

Yesterday morning we signed up for a rainforest hike with Oahu Nature Tours.

This is what part of the trail looked like. I think these are roots from large Eucalyptus trees. Our guide was great and had lots of information on plants and birds. So much of the islands trees an plants and birds are introduced from other places and are not native to the island.

During the hike we went by lots of white Ginger and guava trees that smelled amazing.

This is from sunset last night.
Now it is time to get up and get going.
I hope that everyone is having a great week!

Quick check in

Aloha!

DH and I made it to Hawaii. It is so nice to be here again.

We were able to check in in time to catch the sunset.
Yesterday we spent driving around. The geography is so different from where I live.

Today Is going to be a quiet one. I think that there might be some stitching!

Have a great weekend.

Mahalo
