Some Stash & Some History

Rich and I started the day at The Stitch & Frame Shop in Rock Hill, SC. I picked up a few charts that have been on my wish list. I didn't get any fabric or fibers. If I had I would be starting one of these.

After that we went on to Cowpens Battlefield.

This is a beautiful park. It was such an important battle of the Revolution. Rich and I walked around the battlefield. It was beautiful. I saw some wild turkeys. Then we watched the brief film in the visitor's center about the battle. I think Daniel Morgan is one of my favorite figures from the Revolution.

After that Rich and I headed down the road towards Greenwood, SC. We made another stop at Walnut Grove Plantation in Roebuck, SC.

The home was built in 1765. The home has many ties to the Revolution and the battle of Cowpens. It was worth the stop.

Tomorrow is the start of the rally. It will be great to see friends.
I am going stitch some now. I will be setting my alarm so that I can watch some of the royal wedding in the morning.

Of course my thoughts have been with all the people affected by the terrible storms yesterday.

Housekeeping

I am rushing around trying to get things in order so that we can head out to the Southeastern Dodge Powerwagon rally. A weekend of friends, trucks and mud!! Rich has decided not to take the M37.  After last weekend there is still some kinks to work out. Hopefully next year.

Nataly K. please email me your address so that I can send the Catherine Theron chart to you!

I am working on a Brittercup ornament from my stash of ornament kits and will post some progress soon.
I hope that everyone has a great week!

Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Easter and if you don't celebrate a wonderful spring day.

I stayed home and stitched most of the weekend while Rich was at the rally. I have not felt like settling back down to stitching my Bristol sampler so I stuck my hand down in the stash basket and pulled this guy out. It was fun stitching with this chunky stuff (pearl cotton). I love snowmen so he will be added to the pile for this year's finishing frenzy in October and November.

Then I stuck my hand back in and pulled this little kit out.
This is the Brightneedle ornament form the 2005 JCS ornament issue. Another for the finishing pile.
I will probably look for another small to start and will try and pick up the sampler again after we come back from Greenwood next weekend.

This upcoming week is going to be pretty busy. I have to go get a shower so we can head up to my Mom's for dinner.

Peace!

Chris

Ladies Who Lunch...

Hello Friends,
Thank you for all your kind comments and please forgive my slowness in responding to them. I appreciate them so much!
Today was a gray rainy day here in NC. I met one of my dear friends for our quarterly lunch and adventure. We go to a museum or tour a historic home. Today's target was the Blandwood Mansion in Greensboro, NC. This was Govenor Morehead's home in the early 1800's. It sits in a part of Greensboro that is mostley modern buildings and parking lots. Not much of old Greensboro remains. Most of the buildings are from the 1900's. We were the only visitors on our tour and had a great time seeing the property. The Morehead's were very involved in female education and the founding of the Edgeworth Female Seminary. The school opened in 1840 and operated until 1871. The building burned in 1872.

You can see the sight of the seminary from the house. It is now the YMCA and a parking lot. I have never seen any needlework from this school. I am sure that there must be some out there. I wonder what kind of samplers they stitched? Did they do silkwork pictures? So many questions and so few answers.
During the tour we were shown a painting one of the girls did while at the school. They did have a couple of silkwork pictures on the walls but they did not know where they were from.

Do you explore your area? If you are a sampler stitcher, do you know where the samplers are in your area? Have you stitched a sampler from that area?
I have stitched a North Carolina Sampler. I lived in Connecticut for a long time and I need to stitch a piece from there. I also lived in Maine, so I need to find a nice Maine sampler chart. I have friends that like to stitch samplers with their family name. I have never seen a sampler with my last name. I guess ,that I am kind of thinking out loud here :)
After the tour we had some lunch at a nice place named Cafe Europa in downtown GSO. They have a Croque Monsieur sandwich that comes with a iceberg wedge with bleu cheese. YUM. Perfect for a rainy day. It was great talking about stitching, maybe going to the Winterthur symposium in the fall and a slew of other topics.
It was a great afternoon and just what I needed!

Rich's day...that is a whole different story, it involved new trailer tires, cutting down trees and some other incidents. Fortunately, Rich and his trailer and the M37 made it down to the Military truck rally at the camp ground in the Uhwarrie. It is about 25 miles from our house. Rich will be home late tonight and go back in the morning. I may be joining them for dinner tomorrow night. He is having a good time now that he is there and that is all that matters!

I am going to stitch now. I hope you have a great weekend!

Spring Exchange Reveal

I participated in an exchange hosted by Lainey. You can check out the exchange at The Stitched With Love Exchanges blog.

This is the ornament that I stitched. It is from The Prairie Schooler #60 Spring Samplers.

For the exchange we had to send 5 things. My exchange partner was Deborah from Cranberry Samplings.

Look at this stuff! I was so surprised and excited! I loved everything!

How fabulous is this! Thank you Deborah!
I hope that everyone is having a good week!

Hugs

Orange Squeeze

There is a chain of fast food restaurants in NC called Cook Out. They have great burgers and milkshakes. The local one in Asheboro has a 99 cents shake of the week and right now it is orange squeeze. It is kind of like a creamsicle on an orange push-up.  Fortunately I don't drive by there on a daily basis. I was very tempted to make a 5 minute detour when I was leaving work tonight but I was strong. When I got home there was one waiting for me in the freezer that Rich had gotten for me. What a guy! So now in my state of brain freeze it is off to bed.
Goodnight :)

A Finish....Pay It Forward For The Chart

Here is my finish of the Theron Traditions 1987 Teaching Sampler. It was a fun quick stitch. The stitches included are cross. eyelet, satin, herringbone, smyrna, rice and double cross. I would like to pass on the chart to someone. If you would like this chart please leave a comment on this post and I will pick someone randomly on Tuesday the 26th. There is some floss left, not enough to complete the sampler but it will give you and idea of the colors if you want to pull them from your stash.

So, what should I work on next??

Have a good night!

Progress

Here's my progress on that Catherine Theron piece. It has all different stitches, cross, herringbone, marking stitch, double cross, Smyrna, rice and satin. Oh, and there are some pesky eyelets, they go in the middle.

I should be able to finish it off this week.

Thanks for coming by. Sweet dreams.

Attitude Adjustment Saturday

I wish that I could be this relaxed and laid back. This is what my cats do while I am at work being stressed out.  I tend to care very much about what I do and work very hard. I am in a situation where I feel like my work area is always disrespected and I am always given more work to do and have to clean up when other people are behind. Not a good place to be. But it is a job, right?
I had to pull out another quilt since it has been cool at night. I love having the windows open this time of year.

I came home on Thursday night after working both jobs to a wonderful surprise. My spring exchange partners box came. It was just what I needed after my horrible Wednesday. I will be posting pics next weekend. The organizer of this exchange(Lainey) whats to have the reveal then.  All I can say to Deborah(Cranberry Samplings) is THANK YOU!

Rich and I went to see Hanna on Friday. I really liked it. I think it had an interesting style and sense of humor.

Today Rich and I ran some errands and then he went outside to work on his military truck and I did some stitching.
Do you see the date on this one?! 1987. I wasn't even stitching samplers then. I found this at some small needlework in South Carolina .one of those sad places that had a lot of old inventory. I don't think they really had much. It was probably about 5 years ago. Anyway I found this kit and I think it was maybe $5 bucks. It has been languishing in the stash since then but today it rose to the surface and what the heck!? Let me start something new!

I will post some progress pics tomorrow.

I hope that where ever you are that you and your families are safe. There have been strong dangerous storms across the south. Have a great night.

Chris

P.S. Do not try Ben & Jerry's Red Velvet Cake ice cream. It is nasty. Consider yourselves warned!!

Obligation Stitching

Here it is. Good-bye, good luck. Don't let the door hit you in the a@#.

I will be putting in the mail Friday so the fabulous lady who is doing all the finishing can work her magic.

The regular EGA meeting was supposed to be the 21st but has been cancelled due to the holiday..?
I am in one of those moods where I am feeling like not renewing my membership this year.

Work is still being a b*&%$@. I guess that I will be saying goodbye to the spreadsheets so that I can go back to my original job and get it under control again. My co-workers have been so helpful and supportive...I really shouldn't be going down this path. Bitter.

I can't sleep so maybe I will try and stitch some. I am working both jobs tomorrow. UGH.

Catch some zzzs for me :)

Another Quaker

I hope that everyone is having a great week. Thanks for all the kind comments on my new quilt. I am very happy with it.
This is the sampler that is currently hanging over my bed. It is a Weihenburg that I stitched in 2008. It was either a mystery or an SAL. It is really quite lovely. I enjoy stitching quakers and monochromes.
I am almost finished stitching my guild piece. I just have to do the backstitching and then in the mail it will go.
After that I am not sure if I will pull MA Tipper back out or work on another UFO.

Things at work aren't going as smoothly as I would like. I was supposed to be doing the new job 3 days a week, but last week was only 2 and this week will only be 2. Needless to say stuff is starting to pile up.
I can do what I can. It is hard bouncing between the 2 places because I am not able to give either of them the attention that they need.  Enough about that!
It was 87 here yesterday. Way too warm for April. Today has been cooler. It looks like the last frost is behind us and we have spotted hummingbirds at the feeders.

Have a nice evening. I hope that spring has arrived for you too.

Spring Things

Hello Friends.
I hope that everyone is having a  good weekend. The sun has finally come out this afternoon. We had thunderstorms the last few days that kept things gray and cool.  I have made some progress on this little piece for the guild and I will hopefully finish it up in the next couple of days.
Yesterday was spent stitching and doing some cooking. One of my new favorite web pages is the Pioneer Woman's page. Last night for dinner I made the sour cream noodle bake. This is the 2nd recipe that I have made from this site and both are things that I will make again. If you haven't visited this site you should. The photography is beautiful.
This morning we changed over the bed. Good bye flannel sheets! I had bought this quilt set when I had a 30% off coupon at Kohls. It is lighter weight and will be good for spring/summer. I think it looks pretty great. Of course Beau had to get into the shot :) Little things like this make me happy.
I hope everyone has a great week. Thank you for all your kind comments!

Hugs,
Chris

Ugh...stitching because I have to....

My EGA chapter is doing a stitching basket of smalls for raffle at the region seminar in June. All the raffle money will go to the guild. So that's good right?  Anyway I agreed to stitch a piece....now due in 2 weeks because my dear friend was a slacker( her words, not mine) and didn't get it in the mail to me.
I don't have a lot of stitching time so it is a big commitment for me. At least I don't have to do any finishing!
I will try and get a picture of the completed basket and accessories before the raffle so you can take a peek.

I broke down and had a diet coke this morning and it was so good! I will try and behave tomorrow. The diet is out the window. Too much stress in my life right now. The spreadsheets,  my friends the macros and I are getting along ok. A couple of people got their job termination letters this week stating that their job is ending June 30th. Everyone is still waiting to see how things will shake out. I am trying not to worry about it.
I got to go to a dinner last night with some colleagues and this was the yummy dessert that was served...
The martini glass was rimmed in cinnamon and filled with peach cobbler.

I hope that everyone is having a great week and is enjoying some spring weather!

Gotta go stitch!

This is not a kitty toy....

They make it challenging to stitch. I have to make sure I put these away when I am done :)

Welcome April

Hello Friends
Not much has been happening here. The kitties spent this windy Saturday hunkered down on the bed. Binx had a superstar moment today. The vet had called to say that they didn't have a record of his rabies shot so we should run him by. He lived there awhile so everyone was very happy to see him.

I finished my spring exchange piece. My package is ready to be mailed off Monday! I am already having separation anxiety. I always do when I give away a stitched piece. I know that it is going to a fabulous home!
Now I am going to rummage through my stash for something that has already been started. I do not know if I am ready to pull out M A Tipper again.
Tomorrow is a work day. I hope that everyone had a peaceful Sunday.
