Teeth Marks

Can you see all the little punctures here? What do these guys want to chew on plastic for? At least they didn't get to the floss.

I have a little progress to show.

I hope that everyone is having a good week and that you have power again. We didn't have power for 5 days when there was a bad ice storm about 8 years ago. It gets old really quick.

I have to got to a visitation tomorrow for a co- worker that retired in March and just passed away. So sad.

Is everyone looking forward to the long holiday weekend here in the States?
I am going to work Monday buy I am looking forward to having Saturday and Sunday off!

Well off to bed!
Sweet dreams.....

Random Stuff

Hello Friends.  I hope that you and your families are all safe and prepared for Irene if you live on the East Coast. Here in Randolph County, NC we have only experienced some wind. I was hoping for some rain too. It has been hot and dry the last week and some rain would have helped. I know that further east the coast is getting hammered with rain and would wish it away.
I finally finished reading this book. I enjoyed it a lot but I hate waiting for the next one. I like books with some closure. Anyone else feel this way? I like reading mysteries because each case is closed even though the book has old friends whose adventures you have shared before. Next up on my reading list is Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews. Light and fluffy.
Rich is working today so I ran some errands this morning. One stop was the post office. I picked up some stamps. I love this set. Look at the strawberry. This artist should do some cross stitch designing!
I also picked these up. For many years I worked for Lechters Housewares so I love these stamps too.

I spent some time this afternoon with the mystery sampler. I am adjusting back to the 40ct. linen. I got a wicked papercut on the middle finger of my right hand yesterday at work and when I hit it wrong with my needle..ouch!!! I watched a silly movie called Wicked Target and stitched this afternoon. They were driving around in an old mini, so you know I liked that part of the movie.

Well Rich is on his way home, dinner is in the oven.
Be safe friends.

Tickled

With this finish!

This is the SamSarah freebie from the Weeks Dye Works website. I stitched it with one strand of the recommended threads. I added a Smyrna stitched red and white border.

This is what I did with the back, a couple of stitched stars and a couple of buttons.
It will be headed off in the mail to my friend soon!
Now I need to get back to the mystery sampler. I am tempted to join the Halloween exchange hosted by Lainey but I don't know if I need another distraction.
I won't get any stitching done the next 2 nights since I have to work and I am going to a dinner.
Did the earth shake for you today? I missed it. I was walking along and didn't notice anything.
There may be part of hurricane Irene headed our way. People are starting to pick up their supplies. Hopefully we will just get a bunch of rain.

Be safe!

I Need Another Day Off!

Hello Friends!
I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Saturday I drove down to Chapel Hill to meet one of my stitching friends. After meeting up we drove over to Hillsborough to visit the Burwell School.

This was a girls school which operated from the late 1830's to the lat 1850's. Elizabeth Keckley was a slave here prior to buying her freedom and becoming a dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln and the wives of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis.

This is the house.

This is the school house in the back.

The garden is kept up by the Hillsborough garden club.

After our tour we went and had lunch at a place called the Riverside cafe, very southern home cooking.
My friend and I have gotten into this habit where when we get together every other month or so we spend the day like this. We have a great time.
Today was spent vacumimg, grocery shopping and stitching.

I just have to work on putting this together for my friends birthday. This free pattern is available on the Weeks Dye Works website.
Well time to get ready to start another week!

Good night :)

Mid-week

Good morning!
I hope that everyone's week is going well. I have been enjoying cooler weather. When I leave the house in the morning and it is 61 degrees I am happy.
I have been stitching on the small for a friend. I am not going to have it finished in time for Saturday. Tonight is my night at CVS and tomorrow night is EGA.

This is a picture of the Asheboro Female Academy.

I have never seen a piece of needlework from here. Right mow the building is suffering. I tried contacting the historical society but have never gotten a response, I sent in money and never got a response or newsletter or anything. It made me very frustrated. Oh well. One day I hope to see some needlework from here and hope to see a more active historical society.
Well off to work!

Where Did That Week Go?!?

Good Morning Friends.
What a hectic week. I am not sure why really, Maybe as I write this I will figure it out.  Thank you for all your comments and kind words. I have been trying to catch up with replying and viewing the other blogs and commenting but I think that I have failed and done a half-a**ed job.
I hope this week I will be better.
I have started this small as a gift for a friend. I can't show more because she has been reading my blog. We are getting together next Saturday and hopefully visiting the Burwell School in Hillsborough, NC. This was a female academy and Mary Todd Lincoln's seamstress, friend and benefactor is from there. It should be interesting. Pics to come!
I had a good mail week. Some new stash came. There are so many temptations right now. Have you seen the new BBD Halloween designs? I still want to get the new Loose Feathers Design. Maybe Rich will tell me he hit the lottery this week?!! A girl can dream :)

Then I also received my new issue of AFA magazine. Total eye candy. I usually look through the issue a couple of times, read any articles that interest me and then cut out the Huber and Finkle adds to put in my sampler scrap book.
I used to work part time in the office I just moved from. Lots of times I was bored so I would cut out small pics from this magazine. It may have been a painting, a pic of a needlework chest, whatever struck my fancy. Then I would leave it somewhere in the office...on the cork board, taped to the phone, under the blotter... My way of messing with my co-workers :)
So back to my crazy week... I went to see The Help on Thursday night with some of my friends. The theater was filled with book group ladies. I had listened to the audio of this a couple of years ago and it is an excellent production read by 4 actors. If you haven't read the book I recommend the audio version. The movie was very good, if you are going take some Kleenex!
I worked Tuesday night and Saturday at the second job. The last couple of days it has rained here and cooled off some. It has actually been in the 60's at night. All I can think about is fall, the smell, walking thru fallen leaves, the colors... I am also thinking of the JCS ornament issue! Have you seen the cover?!! I can't wait.
My big news of the week is that Rich and I have booked our trip for our 20th anniversary and we will be going here...
I took this pic on the North Shore of Oahu when I was there for work in May 2009. This is the beach where the sea turtle were playing in the waves. I never thought I would see something like that. What a gift!
When I had signed up for this work assignment I was scheduled only to work in California but the schedule changed while I was in California and I ended up in Hawaii for 3 weeks. I had already booked Rich a trip to come see me in California so I couldn't have him come to HI too. Now I get the chance to share all those things I saw with him. I can't wait!

Well, I need to get going. I have to get some grocery shopping done then this afternoon Rich and I are meeting some friends to go see Cowboys & Aliens and I need to do some other errands while we are in town.
I hope that everyone has a great Sunday and that everyone that has kids going back to college or starting school the next couple of weeks has an easy transition.

Hugs!
Chris

Time To Get Going!

Yes, time to start another work week.

Yesterday was spent catching up on house work for the week, changed the bed, laundry, vacuuming, grocery shopping...
After that I did spend a little time stitching. Here is my progress on the mystery sampler.

I was playing with the king camera photo app.
I am going to have to put this aside to stitch a small. I had started one but I have lost the floss that I was using. I spent a lot of time Friday night tearing the house apart trying to find it. It either fell off the chair into the garbage can that I keep there or the evil cats have hidden it.

One of the first signs of fall arrived in my mailbox this weekend. I really need to stitch some more fall things to put up at that time of year.

This is the first year that I have had fresh figs from the plant in my garden. I have only had a couple since I have been sharing with the birds. There is nothing better than fresh figs.

Well I have to go into work now.
Thanks for all your kind comments.

Happy Monday!

Road Trip

Happy Saturday stitching friends!

I am happy to have made it to the weekend. This morning I met Myra(Gr8dame's Place Blog) for a road trip down to Manning, SC for the stitch in at the French Hens. This is a group that meets every other month or so for stitching and lunch. It is a 3 hour drive from Asheboro. It is pretty far to go by yourself but with Myra along the drive was no problem.

This is the sign headed into Manning. I had to stop on my way out of town because it made me smile.

There was a group of about 17 for lunch and stitching. It was wonderful to put faces to the name's of some of the stitchers in the Blogosphere.

Here is a pic of Myra and me.

She made me this wonderful fabric basket. Look at the fabric! there is a squirrel in that arch, peacocks, berry baskets and a house. All are great sampler motifs.

Look what was in the bag! one of Myra's beautiful bird pincushions, a sweet distressed prim papermache box and a pack of needles. I am a lucky girl! Myra is so talented and has such an eye for detail.

The charm and those prim needles! wow!
Myra and I made it back to Asheboro after a fun day with hopes to have the chance to go again.
I am beat but happy!
Have a peaceful evening.

August Goals

Good morning friends!

This is what I have been eating for breakfast lately. Cereal just doesn't do it for me.

I am thinking about a few goals for August.

I would like to say finish the mystery sampler. Even though o have some momentum going right now, I know that it will not last. So I will settle for 1/2 done.

I have to stitch a gift for a friend so that will take a week's stitching time.

So, those are my stitching thoughts this morning. I have to have to work now.

Have a great Tuesday and stay cool!
