Gift for a friend

One of my stitching buddies birthday's is in August and I have decided to stitch a patriotic ornament. This is a freebie design from Breanna Stewart. I changed the colors to WDW floss and used Lancater Red, Pea Coat and Angel Hair on 35ct. vintage linen. I am going to finish it by backstitching and whip stitching it together and stufing it as a pillow. So today's goal is to decide what I want to stitch on the back and get it stitched :)
Tuesday is matinee day at our movie theater in town. When Rich gets home from work tonight we will head out to see Salt.
My recovery is coming along. The butterfly bandages came off yesterday. I am not going to try driving until the end of the week. It is amazing how tired I have been. I think part of it is from not sleeping well right after the surgery. I am finally able to sleep on my stomach again, so that helps.
Maybe I will have a finishing update tomorrow.
Hope it is cooler for everyone today.

Quiet Sunday

It's too hot to do much of anything. I think I am still recovering from my busy Friday. I walk out to check on the butterflies now and then.
Maybe a little stitching and some reading.
Peace.

Knocked on my a@*!

I had my hysterctomy on the 13th and I am finally starting to feel normal. I have never been in the hospital and I guess that I really had no idea what to expect. The care and every interaction that I had at the Women's hospital in Greensboro was excellent. I ended up having an abdominal incision so spent 2 nights in the hospital. Got my staples out on Monday and have been getting better every day.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week I had some post surgery blues, just felt like crying. I have been home by myself and even though I have not had bad pain, I think that the constant feeling has accumulated and gotten to me. Friends to the rescue, I have had company the last couple of days and had the chance to sit and talk with people that I don't get to talk with that often. It has been great!
My husband's work week is done so today we are going to the movies. I think we will check Inception off the list today. After that I will probably be toast and will head back home to veg out.

Stay cool friends!

Mini Break

Rich and I hit the road for a small break before my surgery this upcoming Tuesday. This is the view from the hotel room in New Bern, NC. From the hotel we could walk downtown  to resturants and to Tryon Palace. Sometimes it is nice to just hole up somewhere like this, go out walk around in the morning, maybe a nap in the afternoon.
New Bern has a small downtown area with some nice resturants. We had lunch at Chelsea. They are in Our State Magazine this month for the best food in Craven County. The item that was picked is South African Pudding. It is a Banana cake, not bread pudding more like a steamed pudding. It was interesting, it was served cold. I don't know that I liked that!? But it was different :)
The day we spent at Tryon Palace it was in the mid to upper 90's. Sigh.
The tour of the different homes and palace was excellent and the gardens were beautiful. It was hard to get in the car to come home.

We haven't gotten any rain here and the zinnias are all wilting. It is just going to be a long hot summer. I will be out of work 4 to 6 weeks. I am hoping to get some stitiching done and some reading.

I have been working on some of the ornament kits from the kit exchange that I participated in for about 5 years. It was based on the JCS ornament issue. You would stitch an ornament and kit it and in return you would get a kit back. I am finishing up the ornaments from the 2004 issue and have completed the Glory Bee ornament and the Bent Creek ornament. I will be doing the finishing in October and November :)

bad picture from my cell phone :(

That's it for now.

4th of July

My friend here has kicked me out of my chair. There just isn't room for the both of us.

I hope that everyone is having a happy & safe 4th with their friends and loved ones. Rich and I have been doing some clean up. Trying to get some stuff done, prior to my hysterectomy on the 13th.

I have been watching The Revolutionary War marathon on the Military Channel and trying to stitch a little on one of the ornament kits from my years of participating in an exchange based on the JCS ornament issue. My friend here is not cooperating!
This is Lexie. She is about 13 or 14 years old and weighs in at about 16lbs. Her sister passed the beginning of the year and now she has decided that it is ok to be a lap cat. I don't know if she thought her sister would make fun of her for this. Lex was adopted in our home when she was 7 years old. I don't know what her life was like prior to living here. I know that her sister really beat on her and would jump her, her life is much mellower now.
The hummingbirds are wizzing around the feeders on the front porch.  Time to go make dinner.
